Book Description:
Can the love of a lifetime be forever changed by one pink line? Dina Silver's tender, absorbing novel, One Pink Line, is the warmhearted, wry story of love, loss and family, as seen through the prism of one singular, spirited young couple who find themselves in a predicament that changes the course of their lives, and those closest to them. With heart, humor and compassion, this debut work of women's fiction is certain to stir anyone who relished a good laugh, can stand a good cry, and, above all believes in the redemptive power of love. This unique, contemporary story gives readers a dual perspective. Sydney Shepard, a sweet-tempered, strong-natured college senior is young, in love with an exceptional man, and unexpectedly pregnant. Faced with a child she never planned for, she is forced to relay this news to her neurotic mother, relinquish her youth, and risk losing the love of her life. Then there's Grace, a daughter, who believed she was a product of this great love, grows to realize her existence is not what she assumed, and is left with profound and puzzling questions about who she really is. Spanning generations and every imaginable emotion, One Pink Line reveals how two points of view can be dramatically at odds, and perhaps ultimately reconciled. Simultaneously deeply felt and lighthearted, One Pink Line deftly mines how the choices we make are able to alter so many lives, and how doing the right thing and living honestly can bring unexpected, hard-won happiness. It's a must-read for anyone who craves a great love story, absorbing characters, and plenty of laughs along the way.
My Book Review:
What would you do if one careless night's activity would ultimately change the course of your future? This is the question that Sydney Shepard had to answer after spending a careless night drinking with her college friends led to actions that would leave her unexpectedly pregnant. What would you do if you were ten years old and found out that your dad isn't your "real" dad? What would you do if your real dad didn't want to be in your life, yet you yearned for years to meet the man who fathered you? These are the questions that swirled around in young Grace's head as she tried to figure out the puzzle that was her birth father.
One Pink Line is a story of two women who each had different perspectives of the man who wasn't in their life, yet left a very distinctive mark upon their lives and bound them together forever.
Sydney Shepard had her future before her, she was graduating from Perdue, had an entry-level hotel customer service position, and a steady loving relationship with her boyfriend Ethan. One careless night out drinking with her closest college buddies and two pink lines from a pregnancy test eight weeks later would change the course of Sydney's life forever. Would she be able to have it all: a baby, a career and Ethan? Or would she lose Ethan forever after he learned that cheated on him? Is their love strong enough to weather the storm and be able to rebuild a future together?
Grace is Sydney's daughter from the careless night out with her college buddy Kevin. Grace had always assumed that her dad was her real dad, even though her mom and dad didn't get married until she was two years old. But at the age of ten, her elementary school was teaching her class sex education, and through the classroom instructions, she came to realize that her beloved dad wasn't her "real" dad, and she suddenly didn't know who she really was. Her mom and dad tried to explain to her the circumstances surrounding her birth, but she never could grasp the idea of why her "real" father wasn't in her life. Would she ever find out the real reason why her birth father wasn't in her life? Would she ever get to meet him? Would he want to have a relationship with her?
One Pink Line is the story of Sydney and Grace's intertwining journey toward love, loss, acceptance, second chances and redemption. This is a heartwarming and beautifully written story that just pulls at your heartstrings. The storyline was very realistic and powerful, Sydney and Grace's stories kept me captivated as I turned the pages. The characters were realistic and very complex, their intertwining lives and interactions with each other gives the story depth and makes it very compelling and believable. I absolutely loved Sydney, Grace and Ethan's characters. They were so realistic and endearing, one couldn't help but fall in love with them, and cheer them on as they go through their journey. The author provides a very detailed description of both Sydney and Grace's journeys, there were so many twists and turns that kept me intrigued and yearning to find out what would happen next in their lives. This fast-paced story will give you goosebumps and leave you sighing all the way to the surprising ending, so make sure you have tissues available!
One Pink Line is a must read for fans of Chick-Lit, Women's Fiction and Contemporary Romance genres. This is a heartwarming story that anyone who's been in a relationship will understand when dealing with life's experiences through choices made, lessons learned and the power of redeeming and enduring love. I applaud Ms Silver on her wonderful debut novel, I eagerly look forward to reading more of her novels.
