One of the challenges that readers face when starting to read a book is the dreaded question to DNF or not a book. If a book doesn't resonate with you within a certain point, do you find yourself trying to decide to continue reading or not finishing it?
To DNF or Not is a personal choice that readers make, and it continues to be widely discussed on social media. For me personally, I do not DNF books, I am always afraid that if I do DNF a book and later find out that the storyline picked up and had a good ending, I feel bad that I gave up too soon.
For example, the last book that I just finished reading was Buckeye by Patrick Ryan, and while reading this historical fiction story that spans from WWII through 1981, I thought the chapters were too long and it dragged in places. The dreaded DNF question came to mind, but thankfully I continued to read because three quarters into the book the storyline picked up and it moved me so deeply that the ending left me satisfied. Now if I did DNF the book, I would have missed how the storyline wrapped up a wonderfully written story about love and forgiveness, and it was that part in the book that made me decide to change my mind from giving it a four-star rating to a five-star rating because the ending simply moved me, and not a lot of books do that every time.
While the debate to DNF or Not will surely continue into infinity, the choice to decide which way to proceed when reading a book is a personal one, and the reader should be content with their decision.
