Book Description:

Stripped Bare
by Shannon Baker is "A must read" (Alex Kava, New York Times bestselling author) that stars a female Longmire in the atmospheric Nebraska Sandhills.

Kate Fox is living the dream. She’s married to Grand County Sheriff Ted Conner, the heir to her beloved Nebraska Sandhills cattle ranch, where they live with Kate’s orphaned teenage niece, Carly. With the support of the well-connected Fox Clan, which includes Kate’s eight boisterous and interfering siblings, Ted’s reelection as Grand County Sheriff is virtually assured. That leaves Kate to the solitude and satisfaction of Frog Creek, her own slice of heaven.

One night Kate answers a shattering phone call from Roxy at the Bar J. Carly’s granddad Eldon, owner of the ranch, is dead and Ted has been shot and may never walk again. Kate vows to find the killer. She soon discovers Ted responded so quickly to the scene because he was already at the Bar J . . . in Roxy’s bed. And to add to her woes, Carly has gone missing.

Kate finds out that Eldon was considering selling his ranch to an obscenely rich environmentalist. Some in town hate the idea of an outsider buying up land, others are desperate to sell . . . and some might kill to get their way. As she becomes the victim of several “accidents,” Kate knows she must find the killer before it’s too late. . . .

Book Excerpt:

Stripped Bare by Shannon Baker

CHAPTER 1
I've never trusted happiness. Just when you think you've corralled that mustang, she busts through the fence and leaves you with splinters. I should have seen it coming.
Still, when I tromped across the back porch, feeling grateful to be out of the frosty night air, I wasn't worrying about my world turning into a sloppy, wet pile of manure. My calving ratio sat at a hundred percent so far this year. Maybe I could convince Ted to take a week off after the election and head down to a beach someplace, anyplace away from cattle and family and sheriffing.
The house lights weren't on when I'd trudged from the barn. Carly was supposed to be home working on the term paper she'd blown off last semester. Using her charm, Carly had convinced the English teacher to give her another chance. If she didn't finish the paper this time, though, she wouldn't graduate, and my dear niece would be living with me forever.
I pried off one cowboy boot and dropped it to the porch floor, wondering how to motivate Carly without pushing too hard. The jangle of the phone penetrated the door to the house. I could have ignored it, but if Ted didn't answer his cell, the county sheriff's number rolled over to the landline installed in our house. I burst through the door and thudded across the kitchen. With one boot on, one boot off, I flew into the closet-turned-office and grabbed the old-fashioned receiver. "Sheriff's phone."
"Listen, Kate, Uncle Bud and Aunt Twyla are planning Easter at their place and I told them you'd bring that seven-layer salad."
As far as the Fox family was concerned, you can run but you can't hide. "Hi, Louise." My older sister. One of them, anyway. "We've talked about you using the sheriff's phone only for emergencies. Right?"
The reminder was as effective as ever. "You won't answer your cell. Let me talk to Carly."
"Carly's not here." Where was she, anyway? And where was Ted?
I stretched the phone cord. Grand County didn't believe in fancy equipment like cordless phones. They sprang for Ted's cell phone, but he wasn't supposed to use it for personal calls. I slapped on the light, squinting into the tiny living room. Several books were scattered on the floor. A potted plant spilled dirt onto the worn carpet and the throw from the threadbare couch puddled in the middle of the living room. The chaos seemed unusual, even for Hurricane Carly.
"Where is she?" Louise asked.
"Not sure." Maybe I wasn't fit to be a guardian, but I thought a girl destined to graduate from high school in a month ought to have a fair bit of autonomy. Course, with Carly's history, I was balancing on barbed wire there.
Louise paused to build up steam. "You should supervise her better. She needs —"
A syllable blanked from her lecture. "Gotta cut you off," I said. "The sheriff's second line."
I punched line two, expecting another one of my siblings, who'd also been warned against using the official sheriff's line. "Sheriff's office."
"Oh God, oh God, oh God!" Sobbing, hysterical. A woman blubbered into the phone. "Oh God!"
It took a moment to recognize the voice. It wasn't one of my favorites. "Roxy?"
More sobbing. "He's dead. He's dead. I think. Oh God."
"It's Kate. Who's dead? Where are you?"
"Kate. Oh my God. Blood!"
My skin chilled and my scalp prickled, despite knowing Roxy's penchant for drama. As Ted's old high-school girlfriend, and by some unfortunate quirk of fate, Carly's stepmother, she'd been plaguing me for years. "Roxy!" I yelled, trying to shock her hysterics away.
It didn't work. "I don't know who to call. I came home and the door was open. There's blood everywhere."
"Whose blood? Where are you?"
She finally sounded as if someone caught her with a grappling hook and dragged her slowly down to the ground. "I'm at Eldon's."
Eldon Edwards was her father-in-law. Their houses were only one hundred yards apart and a good half hour from the nearest town. "Is he hurt?"
She started to sob again. "He's dead. He's been shot."
Dead? Eldon? No. My brain tried to push the words away. This was definitely a job for the sheriff. "Okay, hang on. I don't know where Ted is, but I'll find him and get him out there right away."
"He's shot." Roxy sounded like she jumped on the panic wagon again.
"I'll get an ambulance and find Ted."
She wailed out his name. "Ted."
"Stay calm and he'll be there soon."
"He's bleeding. Oh God, he's dying!"
I'd often wanted to slap Roxy, but this time I could probably get away with it. "I thought you said he's dead."
"No, Eldon is dead." Sob, sob.
"Then who is dying?" Maybe Ted was buying drinks at the Long Branch, since it was campaign season. Or visiting his mother in Broken Butte, more than an hour's drive away. I ran through a list of places he might be.
"Ted!" Roxy shrieked into the phone.
That's when her stampeding words started to make sense. "Ted what?"
"He's shot. And there's blood everywhere!"
I dropped the phone and didn't hear whatever else she said.

My Book Review:

In Stripped Bare, the first book in the Kate Fox Mystery series, author Shannon Baker weaves an intriguing mystery tale that follows the amateur sleuth adventures of cattle rancher Kate Fox Conner, as she tries to prove the innocence of her husband, Sheriff Ted Conner, and niece Carly Edwards, who have become person of interests in the murder of Carly's grandfather, cattle rancher Eldon Edwards.

Kate Fox Conner's life revolves around working on the Frog Creek cattle ranch and supporting her husband of eight years, Grand County Sheriff Ted Conner. Kate's life is turned upside down when Ted is shot at the murder scene of local cattle rancher Eldon Edwards. Kate finds out that Ted is having an affair with Roxy Edwards, his ex-girlfriend and Eldon's daughter-in-law. And if that isn't enough, Eldon's granddaughter and Kate's niece Carly is also missing, leaving authorities to list both Ted and Carly as person of interests in Eldon's murder. Concern for her husband and niece leads Kate to embark on an amateur investigative adventure to clear their name and find the real killer, even when danger lurks in their Nebraska Sandhills community.

Stripped Bare is an intriguing whodunit tale that easily peaked my interest. This riveting tale has enough quirky characters, witty banter and humor, drama, secrets, betrayals, a growing list of suspects, and surprising twists and turns, that will easily keep you guessing the identity of the murderer. You can't help but get caught up in the drama and calamity that ensues as Kate tries to solve the murder and prove Ted and Carly's innocence. Kate's amateur investigative adventure unfolds with a wonderful balance of comedy, drama, and suspense, that easily left me wanting more. I loved the surprise ending, and I can't wait to read the next installment of this sassy lady's adventures!

I would be remiss if I didn't mention how much I really enjoyed the author's rich description of the midwestern setting. The author transports the reader to the rustic Nebraska Sandhills small town of Hodgekiss surrounded by cattle ranches, railroad tracks, the large Fox clan and memorable townsfolk.

Stripped Bare is a fast-paced suspenseful tale that mystery fans will enjoy reading.

Book Description:

As Alison battles through law school admissions, the challenges mount both personally and professionally. Will she sacrifice her dreams again to satisfy her new love, Ryan, and her Aunt Elinor?

My Book Review:

If you had a second chance to redo your life choices, would you take it?

In her debut novel, Getting It Right The Second Time Around, author Jennifer Frank weaves a compelling tale that follows twenty-eight year old Alison on a personal journey of self-discovery as her life is unexpectedly given a second chance at following her dreams. Alison is surprised when her late Aunt Elinor leaves her a two million dollar inheritance, but the inheritance has a stipulation: that Alison re-enter and graduate from law school, and fulfill her dream that she had let go of six years ago for a relationship that didn't work out.

Set in Boston, Alison's story alternates with flashbacks to the past interwoven with the present. You can't help but get drawn into this feel good story as Alison's late Aunt Elinor challenges her to change the direction of her life, and grasp the second chance at achieving the dream she had wanted not so long ago. But considering the new choices and changes doesn't come easy for Alison, she enjoys her position as an advocate for women at a domestic violence shelter, and she has a blossoming new romance with a man named Ryan. So come along for the ride as Alison embarks on a personal journey with a little prompting from heaven (Aunt Elinor) to push past her comfort zone and decide what life choices and path to follow. This is a thought provoking story that makes the reader sit back and ponder what they would do if given the opportunity of a second chance at making life choices and decisions.

Getting It Right The Second Time Around is a delightfully lighthearted and uplifting contemporary romantic / women's fiction tale that will leave a smile on your face.

About The Author

Author Jennifer Frank: Physician by Day...Writer by Night. My love of writing grew out of the many meaningful moments I've shared with patients - some joyful, often emotional, always special. My initial essays, appearing in medical journals and literary magazines, allowed me to work through the ups and downs of a medical life.

As an avid reader, I adore a great story. Eventually, I decided to create my own. Not a planful writer, instead my story develops as I write, so I am often as engrossed with what will happen next as if I was reading a book created by someone else. My characters are my favorite part of any story I write. Too bad I will never meet them in real life!

When I'm not stamping out disease or coaxing patients to eat their veggies and not composing the next scene, I am kept busy with my four crazy nutballs - my children and my wonderful and supportive husband.

Book Excerpt:

Earlier that week...

“Go to hell!”

“Relax, Barbara.” Nolan raised his hands as if talking to a child. His voice was calm, composed.

“Oh, I need to relax?” Barbara’s aggression doubled.

Nolan checked the dark hallway to make sure no one in the restaurant could hear them. “This is what I meant.”

“No. You do not get to judge me.” She used her finger for emphasis.

“And you do not get to embarrass my company with your tirades.”

“Your company? So it’s your company now?” She managed between huffs.

“You know what I mean.”

“Yes, I know exactly what you mean, Nolan.”

“Barb –”

“No! I’m done. You do not respect me, and I… am… done.”

“Where are you going?” He asked as she headed towards the exit door.

“Away from you, Nolan.”

“You are being ridiculous. You can’t leave.”

“Watch me.” She paused. “Actually, let me watch you. Yes. Let me watch you try to find someone who will give a damn enough to put up with your crap like I did. Just to see a dream become an internationally recognized, ADDY-award-winning advertising agency.”

“Barb, I appreciate your contribution to the company. However –”

“Do you? You know that you couldn’t have dreamed of entertaining a seven-figure deal if it wasn’t for me.”

“Barb, please, just come back to the table,” he pleaded. He knew she was serious. She was really going to leave. “We can work something out.”

“Save it, Nolan.” She violently pushed past him.

“Barb!” He tried to call after her without attracting the attention of all the diners.

“Oh, and by the way,” she yelled from the door, a mischievous grin on her face, “you’ve had spinach in your teeth since the first course.”

Book Description:

They met at the worst possible moment...or maybe it was just in time. David McClain was about to go to war and Lindsey Wood was there at his going-away party, capturing his heart when falling for a woman was the last thing on his mind. While David was serving his country, he stayed in close contact with Lindsey. But war changes a person, and when he came home very little had the same meaning that it had before – including the romance that had sustained him. Was love truly unconquerable, or would it prove to be just another battlefield casualty?

Gooseberry Island is the most nuanced, dramatic, and romantic novel yet from a writer whose ability to plumb the depths of human emotion knows few peers.

Book Excerpt:

Gooseberry Island excerpt

David had been home for six weeks when he pulled into the market, preparing to locate everything on his mother’s grocery list. As he approached the store, he spotted a young teenage boy walking out; he was holding a brown bag. An older man approached the boy and reached out his hand. David gasped and his dizzy mind immediately raced back to Afghanistan and the horrific beating of the young Afghani boy:

There was movement three hundred yards out on the street below. Unusual, David thought. It was a teenage boy, maybe fourteen, carrying a burlap bag and hurrying home before dark. Never seen him before, David thought.

In a flash, a man—a Taliban fighter—jumped out of the shadows and grabbed the boy’s arm, pulling him to the street and spilling the contents of his sack. As the teenager yelled for help, another Taliban soldier emerged from the darkness. The boy screamed louder, but not a single soul came to his aid…

It only took a few seconds, but the whole scene played out in sequence in his mind—both men yelling and slapping the boy as he screamed for help; the slaps turning to a vicious beating until finally the boy was dead. He could almost hear Command say “Negative” again after he asked if he could intervene. He felt the anguish in his soul threatening to overwhelm him, but it was quickly replaced by a burning rage.

His eyes filled with tears, David returned to the present and started for the man in a mad rush. He was three steps from the shocked stranger when reality clicked in. It’s the boy’s father, he realized. He’s…he’s okay.

David’s body convulsed. He’d forgotten he was home, and the reality of it slapped him hard in the face.

The man pulled the teenage boy close to him; both of them were frightened by David’s sudden charge toward them.

“Sorry,” David said, though it sounded more like “Sigh.” Trying unsuccessfully to smile at them, he turned on his heels and hurried back to the Mustang.

For the next hour, David sat alone in his car, trying to calm the physical effects of his anxiety. Once he’d reined that in, he spent another two hours beating back the depression that always followed in anxiety’s wake.

His wasn’t sure whether the abyss existed within his heart or mind, but he knew that he was now filled with a great void—nothingness. There was no light there, only darkness. There was no hope, only despair. In time, he’d learned to embrace the silence, as the screams and whimpers of faceless victims became echoes that returned again and again, pushing the line of madness. Yet, the solitude was relentless, enveloping, merciless. It would have been better had I never existed, he thought, fearing another moment more than cashing in and leaving it all behind. No love, he thought, no peace. His memories were slanted in such thick negativity that his entire past would have been better off erased. And no one knows I’m dying inside, he thought, inviting another wave of panic attacks to crash onto the shore of his weary mind.

He closed his eyes tightly and tried to calm the short labored gasps. Just ride the wave, he told himself. Just ride the wave.

But in another room in his mind, he knew that even if he rode that wave—and didn’t crack his skull on all the rocks beneath him—he’d have to take the ride again and again. It didn’t take long before the jagged rocks seemed like the more merciful option.

~~~
Enough time had passed for Lindsey to realize David was not coming after her. He’s obviously in a lot of pain, she thought, and doesn’t want to burden anyone with it. She shook her head. But I care way too much about him to let him go through this alone.
With Craig’s permission, she slammed David’s front door behind her and marched through the living room into the kitchen. “Don’t you dare play the coward with me, David McClain,” she shouted before even reaching the room.
As she expected, David had been staring out the kitchen window into nothingness. With tear-filled eyes, his head snapped up. “Don’t you ever call me that word…ever!”
She stared at him for a few long moments before her heart softened. “Then go ahead, tell me that you don’t want to see me anymore and I’ll leave you alone forever.”
He looked at her with tormented eyes but didn’t say a word.
“But you can’t, can you?” she said, her entire insides starting to tremble.
“It’s not you,” he vowed. “It’s me. I’m just not…”
“Don’t you dare feed me that tired line! I spent a year praying for you…writing letters and wishing for us to…” She stopped, trying in vain to contain her emotions.
His face looked panicked, as his mind obviously spiraled out of control to gather the right words. “I don’t have the words,” he said in less than a whisper.
“After the first time I came here, I thought for sure you’d chase after me,” she said. “I’m not stupid, David. I realize something happened over there that has you all twisted up. But I also thought that once you saw my face, you’d…” She stopped again and began to cry.
David placed his hand on hers. She started to pull away, but he stopped her, intertwining their fingers. “Lindsey, please…please don’t say anything until I finish. Just hear me out. Okay?”
“Okay,” she said, her tears threatening to flood her face.
He took a few deep breaths. “I've given this a lot of thought, and I want you to know that I've never lied to you…and I don't plan to now.” He shook his head. “I’m so messed up right now, Lindsey, I can’t even explain it.” He could barely hold eye contact with her. “I really hope we can be together someday…more than you can ever imagine. But I’m just not ready yet. I…I need to heal,” he stuttered.
She took a deep breath and held it.
“Torn isn't even the word for what I’m feeling over this,” he babbled on. “The last thing I want to do is hurt either of us.”
“I don’t think we have to say goodbye, though,” she said, feeling the panic of desperation creep into her soul. “Don’t you remember the night we shared on that bench?”
His eyes grew even more distant. “I really wish things were different,” he said, “that life didn’t have to be so difficult.” He shrugged. “Time will tell, I guess.”
“You guess?” She returned his shrug to him, perturbed.
“Lindsey, I don't know what the future holds, but I do know that I don't want to destroy any chance we might have at it …just because I might not be ready for it yet.” He grimaced. “I need time to find myself, okay?”
Lindsey, the child of a PTSD victim, shook her head. “You don’t have to find yourself, David. You just have to remember who you are…who you’ve always been.”
He nodded, tears streaming down his face.
Lindsey took a deep breath and surrendered. “David, I’ve told you the way that I feel for you and what I want for us. That’s all I can do. The rest is in your hands.” She peered into his dull eyes. “I can only hope that you’ll think of me every day, as I will you. I hope a lot of things, David.” She paused to collect herself. “Most of all, I hope the day will come when Afghanistan is behind you and we can fall in love all over again and catch up on all the things we’ve missed.” Mimicking him, she shrugged. “Maybe you’re right. I guess time will tell.” She pulled her hand away from his and felt her heart rip clean out of her chest. “Until then, you’ll be in my thoughts,” she whispered.
“I’m so sorry, Lindsey,” he sobbed, his shoulders rocking.
“I love you, David,” she said and, with one final attempt, grabbed his chin and forced eye contact between them. “Now tell me you don’t want to see me and I’ll leave you alone,” she whispered.
As he looked at her, Lindsey could clearly see the anguish in his eyes.
“You can’t, can you?” she said, hopefully.
His tears continued to leak down his cheeks. “I don’t want to see you…for now,” he said, and turned his eyes away from hers.
It felt as though someone had just slugged her in the gut. “Okay,” she gasped and ran out of the house crying harder than she’d ever cried before.
Long after Lindsey had run out of the kitchen, David remained catatonic—until he grabbed a drinking glass off the counter and threw it onto the floor where it broke into a hundred pieces. Enraged, he began smashing everything he could get his hands on in the kitchen. At the end of the violent outburst, he collapsed to the floor and began to weep. With his head in both hands, he screamed, “I love you, too, Lindsey.” Day turned into dusk and, like most nights, just beyond the sobs and sniffles the world turned quiet and black.
~~~

After four or five weeks of self-imposed solitary confinement—a punishment filled with death-defying panic attacks and long, treacherous tunnels of depression—David decided to reach out to the men he had served with. They’re the only ones who can relate, he thought. And I wonder how they’re doing…really doing?

My Book Review:

Every once in a while a novel comes along that is so powerfully compelling and thought provoking that it will pull at the heartstrings and stir the soul, for me, that novel is author Steven Manchester's Gooseberry Island.

David McClain is an Army Ranger, who is deploying for his first twelve month combat tour of duty in Afghanistan. Before he leaves his home on Gooseberry Island, he hoped that he might meet a special someone who he could write to and look forward to coming home to while on tour. All he wants is to find the right woman, the girl of his dreams, his soul mate.

Lindsey Wood knows first hand the horrors of PTSD. Her father Denis is a decorated Operation Desert Storm veteran, who is struggling with nightmares from his tour in Iraq. Lindsey is his caretaker, but his bouts with his inner demons and alcohol abuse often leads to Lindsey being on the receiving end of her father's violent fits. He has struggled so much that he lives in a constant state of emotional catastrophe, and has even committed himself to the local VA Hospital for treatment on numerous occasions, but nothing seems to help him and he doesn't know how much more he can take.

Lindsey and David meet on the beach the afternoon before he ships out, when Lindsey's dog trips David while running. There is an instant connection between Lindsey and David, and he asks her to go with him to his going away party. They spend the whole night on the beach sitting on a park bench talking until the sunrise. They vow to stay in touch with each other while David is away for the next year, and meet up at the same park bench on the beach when he comes home. But no one can imagine the changes that would occur in their lives, and the traumatic toll it would take from being away from each other for a year.

Author Steven Manchester weaves a powerful, compelling, and emotional tale that easily draws the reader into Lindsey and David's story. Told in an alternating third person narrative, the reader follows Lindsey and David as they try to maintain a long-distance relationship while he serves a twelve month tour in Afghanistan. The reader follows Lindsey as she goes about her life at home, as she tries to help her father cope as he struggles with PTSD, while dreaming of a future with David when he comes home from his tour of duty. The reader also follows David as his tour in the Kabul Province of Afghanistan with the Fourth Ranger Battalion will change his life forever, as he too struggles internally with the traumatic combat experiences that he endured. David's internal struggles follow him home from his tour, and it will take a powerful beacon of light to guide him back home.

Gooseberry Island is a heart wrenching but inspirational story that will pull at your emotional heartstrings. Author Steven Manchester weaves a richly vivid and chilling description of David's tour of duty in Afghanistan, and brings to light the invisible scars that many of our returning service men and women bring with them when they return home. The author provides the reader with a thought provoking tale that raises the awareness of the effects that PTSD can have upon our military. Just because our service men and women come home in one piece, doesn't always mean that the war is over, for many the internal struggles have only just begun, and for some the struggle is too much get past. According to the author's letter to the reader, he calls upon his own personal experience of serving in Operation Desert Storm to weave a story that details the brutal experience of combat service, and the struggle our military veterans encounter when they return home, and the emotional helplessness it causes their loved ones. This is a story that was twenty years in making, one that was written as a wonderful tribute to our nation's military service people and their loved ones. This is a story that will resonate with you for a very long time.

Book Description:

It’s been six months since Charlotte and Kyle broke up, and the Husband Maker strikes again. Kyle is officially engaged, while Charlotte is still nursing a broken heart.

In an effort to get Charlotte out of her rut, she and her best friend decide it’s time for some good old-fashioned matchmaking. While Aleena arranges for Charlotte to meet up with a handsome Scottish tourist, Charlotte gets her two best friends together. But when sparks start to fly between Aleena and Angus, Charlotte is left feeling more alone that ever–at least until the charming Scotsman becomes more than just a safe, rebound guy and teaches her that maybe, just maybe, she can dare to open her heart again.

Book Excerpt:

“What were you thinkin’?” he asked.

I shook my head. “You don’t want to know.”

Flynn raised an eyebrow. “Why wouldn’t I want to know?”

I shrugged.

“Ah, so you’re making me guess?”

“I doubt you could guess what I was thinking.”

“Can I try?”

I laughed. “Sure, you can try.”

“And you’ll tell me if I’m right?”

I knew he would never guess what I was thinking, so what was the harm in him trying? “Sure. I’ll tell you if you’re right.”

“Well, you’re frownin’ but you say you’re not angry, so it must be something you’re fretting over. Am I on the right path?”

I shrugged and nodded a little at the same time. “Keep going. This might be very enlightening.”

Flynn kept his expression serious as he looked at me, but it was clear from his eyes that he was smiling. “You said you’ve just been heartbroken and maybe you’re not sure you want to date yet.”

I opened my eyes wide and Flynn bit back his smile.

“And here you are with me. And you’re finding me endlessly fascinating and you’re starting to wonder how you’re going to spend the day with me without falling madly in love.”

A laugh that sounded more like a snort escaped my mouth. Flynn was now grinning.

“How’d I do?” he asked.

“Pretty good. Until you got to the falling in love with you part. I was actually trying to figure out how to make sure you knew this wasn’t a date date. If you know what I mean.”

“You want me to know this is just a date, not a date date?”

“I’m thinking of it more like an appointment instead of a date.” I couldn’t believe I was saying this to him, but we were both smiling, and he didn’t seem the least bit upset. I suddenly felt comfortable and calm. He had practically read my mind and now I didn’t have to worry, because he knew exactly where my head was.

“An appointment, eh? Isn’t that more like a haircut? Or a filling in a tooth?”

I laughed again. “Maybe appointment is a bad choice of words.”

“Let’s just call it a play date. Like kids. That way we can have fun with no worries, and if I feel like it, I can pull your hair—”at this point he tugged on my ponytail “—or wrestle you to the ground.”

Now I raised both eyebrows.

“Ya know. Like kids do when they’re playing.”

“Okay, it’s a play date,” I agreed. “Not an appointment. But wrestling me to the ground is strictly forbidden. And you don’t need to worry. I’m not ready to fall in love with anyone right now. Not even a cute guy with a great accent.”

“Ah, she’s fallin’ already.” He bumped against me with his shoulder and we both smiled as we leaned on the rail and looked back at the silvery city.

My Book Review:

Can a girl who has been called "the husband maker" ever find true love with Mr. Right, a perfect man that she can call her own?

In the first book of The Husband Maker series, The Husband Maker, author Karey White introduces the reader to Charlotte, who is unlucky when it comes to love. Since high school, every guy that she has dated has gone on to marry the next girl they dated. She has been called "The Husband Maker" and questions why she can't find Mr. Right, and what has she done wrong. But when she meets Kyle Aldsworth, a Senator's son with political aspirations of his own, she is swept off her feet. Now in the second book of the series, The Match Maker, Charlotte's story picks up six month later after she has suffered a broken heart from Kyle. Charlotte tries to shake it off and move on by playing matchmaker for her best friends Aleena and Angus, only to find her own heart beating fast for a charming Scotsman tourist named Flynn! Can Charlotte open heart up once again in order to find true love? Will Flynn be "The Husband Maker's" Mr Right?

The Match Maker is the second book in The Husband Maker series that continues to follow Charlotte's journey of finding true love. Author Karey White weaves a wonderful contemporary romance story set in San Francisco and Scotland, that is lighthearted, whimsical, and fun. It easily draws the reader into Charlotte's story as it unfolds with a nice mixture of clean romance, drama, and humor. I enjoyed following Charlotte's dating journey filled with dramatic ups and downs, and how she navigates her way through romances while discovering herself along the way. But alas, the reader is left wanting more with a cliffhanger ending, only to see what becomes of Charlotte and Flynn's relationship in the third book of the series, The Wife Maker, which will be published in the Spring of 2015!

The Match Maker is a sweet romantic story that is a delightful read for all romance fans!
