Book Description:

Charlotte has spent years as the husband maker, sending every guy she dates off to enjoy marital bliss with the next girl he dates. But things have now changed, and she's determined to use her husband-maker abilities one last time--on herself. And she finally knows exactly who she wants. Angus has loved Charlotte since they were teenagers, but he's tired of waiting for her to realize how good they could be. She's broken his heart one too many times, and it's time to move on with his life. Maybe a position halfway across the country will be just what he needs to get over her. But when Charlotte won't let him go without a fight, Angus has to decide if he's willing to let her in again or if she's too late.

Book Excerpt:

We walked in silence to the elevator. I took a deep breath and let it out slowly. “Only eight days until you leave.” I kept my eyes anchored on the changing numbers above the door, pretending I didn’t know he was leaving sooner than he’d told me.

“Actually, I’m leaving Monday.”

“You are?”

“I had to pay rent for the whole month of August, so I decided I might as well go a little earlier and get settled in before I get so busy.”

“Oh. That makes sense.”

The elevator doors opened and a man with a bundle of perfectly behaved balloons stepped off.

“You haven’t forgotten dinner, I hope.” I pushed the button for the lobby.

“Charlotte, I just—”

“No, Angus.” I hoped my voice didn’t sound as desperate as I felt. “Please don’t say you can’t.” He didn’t say anything. “Please.”

Angus sighed and shoved his hands in his pockets. “Tomorrow night?”

My heart broke a little at his response. He didn’t sound happy at all. He sounded like someone ready to plow through an unpleasant task to get it over with. My pride wanted to tell him to forget the whole thing, but I didn’t. How could I change his mind if I didn’t see him?

“Tomorrow’s great,” I said with enough enthusiasm for both of us.

“Luigi’s?”

“No way. Neither of us need therapy.” That was a lie. “Let’s go somewhere different. Since you’re leaving, let me surprise you. It’ll be fun.”

“I’ll drive. I don’t feel like contorting myself into your car.” Angus smiled. It was so lovely, I felt a clutch in my stomach.

We stepped out into the angled, evening sunshine and hesitated on the sidewalk. “Where’s your car?” Angus asked.

“It’s over there.”

“Do you want me to walk you?”

“That’s okay, it’s still light.” As soon as the words were out of my mouth, I wanted to take them back. I needed to take advantage of every minute I had with him.

“All right. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“See you.”

Angus didn’t move when I started walking away. I crossed the road and found my car in the visitor parking lot. I glanced back to see which way Angus had gone, but he was still standing there watching me. It wasn’t until I waved that he turned and walked away.

My Book Review:

Can a girl who has been called "the husband maker" ever find true love with Mr. Right, especially when it's her best friend, and he has been there for her the whole time?

In the first book of The Husband Maker seriesThe Husband Maker, author Karey White introduces the reader to Charlotte, who is unlucky when it comes to love. Since high school, every guy that she has dated has gone on to marry the next girl they dated. She has been called "The Husband Maker" and questions why she can't find Mr. Right, and what has she done wrong. But when she meets Kyle Aldsworth, a Senator's son with political aspirations of his own, she is swept off her feet. Then in the second book of the series, The Match Maker, Charlotte's story picks up six month later after she has suffered a broken heart from Kyle. Charlotte tried to shake it off and move on by playing matchmaker for her best friends Aleena and Angus, only to find her own heart beating fast for a charming Scotsman tourist named Flynn! Now in the The Wife Maker, the third book in the series, Charlotte is back from Scotland without Flynn, and she has her heart set on her best friend Angus, who just broke up with Aleena. But there is one little problem, Angus is tired of waiting for Charlotte to consider him more than a best friend, he has decided to move on with his life, and has accepted a position halfway across the country in Kansas City. Will Charlotte's plan to get back the most important person in her life succeed, can she win Angus' heart?

The Wife Maker is the third book in The Husband Maker series that continues to follow Charlotte's journey of finding true love. Author Karey White weaves a wonderful contemporary romance story set in San Francisco and Kansas City, that is lighthearted, whimsical, and fun. It easily draws the reader into Charlotte and Angus' story as it unfolds with a nice mixture of clean romance, drama, and humor. I enjoyed following Charlotte's journey filled with dramatic ups and downs, and how she navigates her way through planning out how to win Angus' heart. I really enjoyed that the story was told in the first person narrative from both Charlotte and Angus' perspective. I loved how the romantic angst played out between them: Angus didn't want to get his heart broken, and he tries to move forward with his life; while Charlotte realizes that Angus is her one true love, and is willing to move across the country to win his heart! This is a wonderful conclusion to a very enjoyable romantic series!

The Wife Maker is a sweet romantic story that is a delightful read for all romance fans!

Book Description:

It’s been six months since Charlotte and Kyle broke up, and the Husband Maker strikes again. Kyle is officially engaged, while Charlotte is still nursing a broken heart.

In an effort to get Charlotte out of her rut, she and her best friend decide it’s time for some good old-fashioned matchmaking. While Aleena arranges for Charlotte to meet up with a handsome Scottish tourist, Charlotte gets her two best friends together. But when sparks start to fly between Aleena and Angus, Charlotte is left feeling more alone that ever–at least until the charming Scotsman becomes more than just a safe, rebound guy and teaches her that maybe, just maybe, she can dare to open her heart again.

Book Excerpt:

“What were you thinkin’?” he asked.

I shook my head. “You don’t want to know.”

Flynn raised an eyebrow. “Why wouldn’t I want to know?”

I shrugged.

“Ah, so you’re making me guess?”

“I doubt you could guess what I was thinking.”

“Can I try?”

I laughed. “Sure, you can try.”

“And you’ll tell me if I’m right?”

I knew he would never guess what I was thinking, so what was the harm in him trying? “Sure. I’ll tell you if you’re right.”

“Well, you’re frownin’ but you say you’re not angry, so it must be something you’re fretting over. Am I on the right path?”

I shrugged and nodded a little at the same time. “Keep going. This might be very enlightening.”

Flynn kept his expression serious as he looked at me, but it was clear from his eyes that he was smiling. “You said you’ve just been heartbroken and maybe you’re not sure you want to date yet.”

I opened my eyes wide and Flynn bit back his smile.

“And here you are with me. And you’re finding me endlessly fascinating and you’re starting to wonder how you’re going to spend the day with me without falling madly in love.”

A laugh that sounded more like a snort escaped my mouth. Flynn was now grinning.

“How’d I do?” he asked.

“Pretty good. Until you got to the falling in love with you part. I was actually trying to figure out how to make sure you knew this wasn’t a date date. If you know what I mean.”

“You want me to know this is just a date, not a date date?”

“I’m thinking of it more like an appointment instead of a date.” I couldn’t believe I was saying this to him, but we were both smiling, and he didn’t seem the least bit upset. I suddenly felt comfortable and calm. He had practically read my mind and now I didn’t have to worry, because he knew exactly where my head was.

“An appointment, eh? Isn’t that more like a haircut? Or a filling in a tooth?”

I laughed again. “Maybe appointment is a bad choice of words.”

“Let’s just call it a play date. Like kids. That way we can have fun with no worries, and if I feel like it, I can pull your hair—”at this point he tugged on my ponytail “—or wrestle you to the ground.”

Now I raised both eyebrows.

“Ya know. Like kids do when they’re playing.”

“Okay, it’s a play date,” I agreed. “Not an appointment. But wrestling me to the ground is strictly forbidden. And you don’t need to worry. I’m not ready to fall in love with anyone right now. Not even a cute guy with a great accent.”

“Ah, she’s fallin’ already.” He bumped against me with his shoulder and we both smiled as we leaned on the rail and looked back at the silvery city.
