Book Description:
Patrick can’t deny his attraction to Josie and is willing to take a chance on love since his broken engagement a year earlier. Things become complicated when he learns of their family connection and her claim to the home he loves. He doesn’t believe in ghosts, or that his family is involved in her aunt’s disappearance, so insists they work together. But, when he starts seeing his uncle’s ghost, and threats are made on her life, he’s forced to confront the possibility his family could be responsible.
Book Excerpt:
Inquisitive green eyes made her heart melted like ice cream in the sun. Why couldn’t he remain his arrogant, pain in the ass client self all the time? It made it difficult to keep him at a distance when he wasn’t.
The problem wasn’t just the client, it was the job. The connections she felt to the house and Patrick were strong. No matter how hard she tried to keep them both at a distance, they were quickly making their way under her skin, like a bad habit intent on finding its way into her life. “Thanks,” she whispered and lowered her eyes from his probing gaze.
The hand on her shoulder moved to her neck and the pulse beating there quickened as it moved to her cheek. His thumbs caressed the side of her face and her melting heart beat rapidly against her chest with each touch he made. She needed to step away from him and the exquisite touch of his skin against hers, but her body refused to cooperate.
“You can talk to me if you need to, Josie.”
Blood bubbled at the sound of her name so low and intimate on his lips. She swallowed hard. Words escaped her, the gentle caress of his hand silencing her words. She held her breath as he closed the already short distance between them so their bodies were inches away from touching. His head lowered toward hers and her breath stopped even as her mouth went dry.

My Book Review:
For the Love of Jazz is an intriguing story of mystery and romance with a paranormal twist. With the themes of jazz club music and a historical house restoration as the backdrop to this intricately woven romantic suspense story written in the third person narrative, author Elke Feuer's debut novel takes the reader on a riveting thrill ride that keeps the reader guessing and sitting on the edge of their seats.
With a Chicago setting, the reader is transported between the jazz club era and present day as Josie Fagan contracts to restore a historical home for lawyer and Senator's son, Patrick Pullman. Their connection goes beyond the restoration of Patrick's ancestral home, as they soon discover that their families have a shared past, and an intriguing mystery unfolds. While staying at the house during the restoration project, Josie discovers that the house was owned by Patrick's uncle William, who had an interracial marriage with Josie's aunt Lola, a jazz club singer who disappeared fifty years ago. As Josie and Patrick's attraction to each other builds, Josie wonders if the Pullmans had anything to do with her aunt's disappearance, and she's determined to find out the truth.
The storyline flows effortlessly and draws the reader in with its intricate woven mystery, suspense, romance and paranormal activities. With a strong cast of characters who engage the reader with their dialogue and interactions, you can't help but feel like you are drawn into the mystery and steamy romance as Josie and Patrick's story unfolds. I loved the historical-present day alternating timeline; the dramatic and dangerous mystery with exciting paranormal activity; and the development of Josie and Patrick's steamy romantic relationship. The historical aspect of the house restoration and the jazz club era was fascinating, I have always been interested in restoration projects and love jazz music. The story simply kept me engaged and wondering what would happen next as the many clues and twist and turns build up to an exciting conclusion. For the Love of Jazz is an entertaining romantic suspense novel with a paranormal twist, what more could a reader ask for?!
RATING: 4 STARS ****

Jazz and salsa are her favorite music to write to. She sometimes wonders if she’s not Billie Holiday incarnate because of the strong connection she feels to her and jazz. It’s her favorite writing music along with salsa.
She stumbled into writing suspense, and to her surprise found she enjoyed it, along with writing about serial killers. Elke is fascinated by them, and what motivates them to kill. She writes time travel, historical, and contemporary novels to even out her dark side.

Love the sound of the book. I've been reading nothing but fantasy and dystopian for awhile now and it's time I went back to books like this one. Love the cover too.

Not in the book, but in my other stories, most definately.
DeleteI dreamed about these characters and they very clear, and insistent, about who they were. In some ways it made them easier to write. LOL!
