Book Description:
At age ten, Leah Anderson was taught a hard lesson about life after the death of her father. Love, happiness and perfection only last so long, so why bother seeking them out.
Jaded by his death and the trauma it caused her family, Leah finds herself detached and indifferent about her life and about falling in love. In a safe and unfulfilling engagement to her demanding, perfectionist fiancé, Ellis, it all begins to wear thin. That's when a handsome stranger comes into her life causing her to second guess everything she's known and believed in.
Abruptly ending her engagement and accepting a date with the stranger, Leah finds herself in a very uncomfortable reality. Knowing that every choice has its consequence, Leah runs from her past and lies to her present to keep herself from falling in too deep.
But in the end, can she live with the choices she makes because they may ruin it all.
Book Excerpt:
As we regain control, a guy approaches our table. He’s wearing a tight dress shirt that manages to showcase his muscular arms extremely well, in addition to a tie loosened at the collar and a pair of fitted flat front suit pants. He’s quite yummy, but he’s here for Cari. This is an every day occurrence and now that Jimmy is in the bathroom, they will come in droves. See, Cari is every guy’s fantasy. Big boobs, tiny waist, cute little butt, but she can talk sports and drink with the best of them. And I’m certain the only reason this guy has made his way over here is the fact that Cari’s boobs look amazing and she was arguing stat scores on Albert Pujols when we walked in.
He runs his hand through his dark blonde hair as he gazes down at Cari. She smiles sweetly, but her face falls a bit when he bends down to whisper something in her ear. Slowly her hand glides across the table covering mine. My eyebrows knit together when we make eye contact. She’s never done this before and then she winks at me.
“He’s here for you,” she says matter-of-factly.
My eyes widen and I almost laugh. It’s not that I don’t get hit on; it’s just that my engagement ring is a huge deterrent. Given its size, it’s kind of hard to miss the three and a half karats. Then it hits me—Cari’s hand. I give my hand a slight tug and she tightens her grip. I pull again and this time she digs in with her nails. “Don’t be rude, Leah,” she says, her tone, slightly snotty. “Introduce yourself to this fine boy. He had the balls to walk over here.” She smiles at him and then lands a swift kick to my shin with her wedge sandal.
“I’m Leah,” I say extending my only free hand. He takes it gently and I feel my entire body clench. I’m not sure why, but suddenly I’m extremely turned on by this encounter.

My Book Review:
Can a woman haunted by a painful past change her jaded outlook on life, love, and her self-destructive ways in order to find herself and an unexpected love?
My Winter is a wonderful story about life, love, heartbreak, family, friendship, and self-discovery. Told in the first person narrative, the reader follows Leah Anderson's journey of self-discovery and finding true love.
After suffering a family tragedy when she was young, Leah's outlook on life has become jaded and her behavior self-destructive. She runs from her painful past by erecting a wall around her heart that stunts her view of men and love. Detached and accepting what life hands her, Leah is engaged to Ellis, a pompous man who belittles her and constantly puts her down. When Leah meets a handsome stranger named Adam, the attraction is mutual, causing her to question her choices and the way she views life and love.
Adam has his own painful past baggage, but he is open to love and is determined to show Leah the way. Leah's journey towards love is filled with hurdles and bad choices that could ruin everything before it even gets its wings. Can Leah and Adam let go of their dark pasts, overcome the obstacles, and open themselves to the brightness of love and happiness?
My Winter is the kind of contemporary romance novel that immediately draws the reader in from the start, holds them captive, and takes them along for the ride as Leah and Adam's journey slowly unfolds. With an endearing cast of characters who easily draw you into their story, witty dialogue and dramatic interactions, and a storyline that has the reader experiencing the full gamut of emotions, My Winter is a beautifully written story about life and love and all the trials and tribulations that come with it ... even in the darkness of winter.
