Braden stole my heart with his wonderful disposition, and his caring and supportive ways, he is a modern day knight in shining armor, and Liza is truly one lucky girl!

With an intriguing cast of recurring and new characters; engaging dialogue and dramatic interactions; a richly detailed description of the scenic Cape Cod and Sochi settings, the world of Olympic competitive ice skating; and a riveting storyline full of drama, angst, suspense and romance; Gold Rush is an amazing lighthearted romantic story that will leave you believing in the power of friendship and love, sighing and smiling, and hoping that the author would make this delightful book into a brand new series (sigh).

“I’m assigned to the Kentuckians, not to one player.” Brooks sat up straighter in her chair. Hard gaze or not, these two were not going to derail her assignment. With the veritable all-access pass she had with the team, she could create real buzz. Maybe land a spot at the network sports desk or maybe even in the booth during games. “I can’t report on the other players if I’m all the way in—” she looked from man to man.

“Hyde Park,” Jonas said, reluctantly. The neighborhood was a ten-minute drive from the training camp facility. Not so far away she couldn’t report on what was going on, but something was off about this request.

“And several team staffers will be on hand, talking to the boys about nutrition and proper training as well as the sport fundamentals,” Earl added. “Think of it as a team training camp, but with an emphasis on kids, not professional athletes.”

With the right angle, this could be something the network would be interested in. There were several initiatives the league was involved in to get kids more active, and this camp sounded like a way to bridge league and team programs. But it could just as easily be covered by the local affiliate. They didn’t need her, and she did need an interview with Jonas. “Why me?”

Earl studied her for a long moment, which was odd because Jonas seemed to be making a point of not looking at her. Not even a sideways glance. His chocolate-brown eyes were focused on the corner wall seam as if something magical might appear at any moment. Weird. He’d had no problem giving her a hard time in the locker room yesterday. He might not like her reporter side, but he liked other parts of her. After yesterday’s locker room incident, Brooks knew where she stood on the personal like-o-meter of Jonas Nash.

The thought sent a shiver of excitement up her spine.

She wouldn’t do anything with the knowledge; she’d stopped dating jocks in high school. But it was still nice to be noticed by a man like Jonas.

“The interview.”

Brooks’s breath caught in her throat. “I get the interview when you get the coverage for the charity camp.”

“It’s not a charity, these kids deserve better than pot-holed streets disguised as basketball courts or football fields.” Finally, Jonas joined the conversation, although he still wasn’t looking directly at her. Instead, those deep, deep eyes were fixed on something just above Brooks’s head.

“Again, not my assignment. I’m the beat reporter assigned to report on your team, not your charity work.”

Jonas clenched his jaw. “You can report on the charity work or you can deal with a locker room full of men who won’t give you the time of day through early February,” he said. “Assuming we’re playing for the championship.”

“You can’t shut me out.”

“Oh, you can walk that fine ass into the lockers any time. Finding someone who will talk to you, that’s a whole other subject.”

My Book Review:

Protecting the Quarterback is an entertaining sports themed romance novel that has everything a reader could ask for: football and romance. Written in a sassy fashion, author Kristina Knight grabs the reader's attention with an intriguing storyline that easily draws the reader into sports broadcaster Brooks Smith and professional football quarterback Jonas Nash's story as they embark on a journey to discover what really matters the most to them. Filled with enough drama, humor, and passion, this is one romance story that will keep your interest as their love story unfolds.

Brooks and Jonas are realistic and down-to-earth people who are dedicated and passionate about their careers, and they have insecurities and issues that are believable and easy to relate to. Both are strong, complex individuals whose witty banter and sizzling interactions creates a powerful story that the reader can embrace. I absolutely enjoyed both of these characters, I couldn't help but cheer for them as they discover that they can balance their careers while falling in love with each other.

Protecting the Quarterback is a lighthearted and passionate love story that every football fan will love to read. Romance fans, if you want a fast-paced sports themed story that has a wonderful mixture of football, drama, and passionate romance, then this is the book for you!

With one day to go until our fantasy draft, I have a lot of prep work to do.

Last year I joined the league a few hours before the draft. My education had been a crash course from Wade on how to use the computer program and a few tips from my brother. I didn’t care at the time. I wasn’t in the league to win. I only joined in a desperate attempt to make my new co-workers at the car dealership like me. By the end of the season, my interest in the game—and Brook—had been piqued. I’d been willing to fight hard for a victory with both.

Winning Brook’s heart had been easier than winning the league championship. Even after a major late-season rally, I finished in fourth place.

Not this year. I’ve spent the off-season studying the game and planning. And I’m determined to go all the way. Even if that means humiliating the man I love when we go head-to-head against each other. The worthy, but humble, opponent he is, I’m sure Brook will ultimately forgive me when I hoist the figurative league trophy over my head. Unlike last year, I have a legitimate game plan. It’s called, “Study Up On All of the Top Players and Draft Them.” Subtitle: “Within Reason.” I still don’t feel right about having bad boys or total douches on my team, but I’ve made my peace. You have to make tough decisions like that when you’re in charge.

I plan to stock up on top-tier wide receivers and tight ends. In our league, we get points for each catch, which means I need players with good hands. Hands not unlike my ex-wide receiver boyfriend, only I put his hands to a much different, but equally important, use.

The other part, which is slightly more controversial, is my intent to plan one bad week. Theoretically, during one week—in my plans it’s week eight—I’ll have several of my top players out on bye weeks. That means I’ll likely lose, which should suck. I’ll have a total juggernaut team every other week of the season, so it won’t matter if I take a knee once.

In preparation for implementation, I’ve done a few mock drafts online. Okay, I’ve done ten, but I really want to get all of the jitters out of me before the real thing. While it’s been interesting to watch some of the trends going in these fake draft rooms—it seems like we’re in another year of the overrated running back—I’m not going to let that influence the way I pick my team. I have a wish list, and I don’t plan to stray far from it. We’re a ten-person league this year, so I’ve done a mock draft from each spot in a ten-person league. I have a good idea of who will and won’t make it on my team no matter when I draft. It’s comforting to feel this in control of my destiny.

My Book Review:

In Going For Two, the second book in the Queen of the League Series, author Laura Chapman weaves an entertaining chick lit tale that continues the trials and tribulations of Harper Duquaine as she tries to balance home, romance, and work issues, while delving into the second year of the competitive world of fantasy football leagues.

Author Laura Chapman takes her personal passion for fantasy football leagues and creates a hilarious chick lit series with a football theme. She weaves a sassy tale full of humor and drama that easily draws the reader into the continuation of Harper's story as she tries to try juggle the challenges in her life with the fierce competitiveness of fantasy football leagues.

In Going For Two, the focus is on how Harper deals with the challenges of everyday life issues, especially in her relationship with boyfriend Brook, while the fantasy football league takes a back seat. I really enjoyed the switch in the storyline as the drama of everyday life issues that Harper struggled with are realistic and easy to relate to. But I couldn't help but snicker as Harper did her homework for the new season of fantasy football, as I too prepare to take down the opposition every season in my various sports fantasy leagues.

Going For Two is an exciting and fast paced story that flows smoothly and easily keeps the reader turning the pages. Author Laura Chapman sure knows how to weave an enjoyable series that keeps her readers in stitches. You can't help but get caught up in Harper's roller coaster ride of a life full of drama and sweet romance, it's simply delightful!

In honor of Going for Two’s release, I’m sharing some fun facts about the book and Queen of the League series.

Though I’ve mentioned some football teams by name—the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Green Bay Packers—in the Queen of the League series, I wanted to shy away from focusing on any real players or real teams for specifics. Knowing how big of a part Brook’s high school team would play, I created a fake one: the Lincoln West Warriors. Even though all of the people associated with the school and team are completely fictional, I did throw in a few details from my own high school: the Millard West Wildcats. Both of our schools have green and black as our colors—though our other accent was gold while the Warriors are silver. Like a lot of the little things in these books, it’s a small tribute to my past.

If you’re a follower of my blog, Change the Word, then you’re already well aware of my storied and tumultuous affair with fantasy football. If you aren’t familiar with the history, you can click here to catch up (or you can maybe guess the extent of my interest based on my use of words like “storied,” “tumultuous,” and “affair” to describe it).

Through three football seasons and five teams I’ve sought a fantasy football championship title. And five times I’ve fallen short. Regardless of my tragic fantasy football history, the journey has been good research for writing First & Goal, the first novel in my Queen of the League series.

Each season and team has been like a snowflake—unique and unpredictable, even though they’re all comprised of the same basic elements. And accordingly, I’ve picked up a thing or twelve along the way. (Some of these lessons learned may have found their way into the story…)

Here’s some of the wisdom I can impart to you:

Don’t draft drunk. You shouldn’t operate heavy machinery or a cell phone containing your ex’s number after having a few, and you shouldn’t build an empire while equally impaired. This can be challenging as football and booze tend to go hand-in-hand, but I urge you to resist the urge to overdo it. Pace yourself and hydrate. You’ll need your wits about you should your top picks go before you have a chance to take them.

Leave you sentimentality (and libido) at the door. I know there are some total hotties in the NFL. And I know you’re a longtime fan of… some team. So you definitely have favorite players if you’re a fan of the game. Forget them. Seriously. Unless you have a deep passion for Aaron Rodgers complete with a poster over your bed a desire to draft him (he’s a good pick, he’s very good) you’ll only hurt yourself by drafting with your heart or that funny feeling you get in your tummy. Talent and consistency are better drivers for your team’s future.

Sometimes you have to research. Even if you watch every game, enough decisions (and God forbid injuries) happen off the field that you have to pay attention outside of the parameters of regulation play. You don’t have to go crazy and read or watch every Fantasy Football program available, but don’t set your lineups blind.

Practice makes perfect. I used to roll my eyes at the idea of people doing mock drafts, but they really do help. If nothing else, going through the motions of pretending to draft a team before you have to will remove some of the nervous tension you might experience in the real thing. Best case scenario, you’ll notice some trends about which players will go fast that it will give you a game plan for making your own picks.

It’s okay to cry. Whether you’re happy, because you’ve somehow managed to secure a spot in the playoffs or beyond bummed that you’ve lost yet another game by a measly couple of points, give in to that urge to let it out. Just try to do it in a safe place so you don’t end up getting ridiculed by your friends or league-mates for years to come. And I highly suggest crying to punching someone in the face. It’s less messy.

I suppose I should close this out by saying something inspiring and sweet like, “The most important thing is to remember to have fun,” but I won’t. I’m sure some people find fantasy football fun (I know I did the year I was destroying every other team in the league), but it’s hard work. I’d say the most important thing is to stay classy and aware. These people may be your friends, but remember: this is war.

Finally! Author Laura Chapman takes her personal passion for fantasy football leagues and creates a hilarious chick lit story with a football theme to kickoff the 2015 NFL season! Yesssssssssss!

First & Goal is an entertaining chick lit tale that follows the trials and tribulations of Harper Duquaine as she delves into the competitive world of fantasy football leagues.

Author Laura Chapman weaves a sassy tale full of humor and drama that easily draws the reader into Harper's story as she tries to fit in with her new co-workers by joining their fantasy football league. As a newbie, it doesn't take long for Harper to set aside nicety and realize the competitive edge to the league ... and when you add in two sexy men who vie for her attention but who are also her challengers, what are her chances at winning the game and finding love?

As a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan who also plays the various fantasy sports leagues, I can so relate to the author's passion, and to Harper's competitive side as she learns the ins-and-outs of fantasy football leagues, and the drama that comes with it. I couldn't help but snicker as I read the story, it is just plain fun. I absolutely loved the intertwining of romance with a football theme, football fans get the best of both worlds in this nifty little story!

First & Goal is an exciting and fast paced story that flows smoothly and easily keeps the reader turning the pages. Author Laura Chapman sure knows how to weave an enjoyable tale that keeps her readers in stitches. You can't help but get caught up in Harper's roller coaster ride of a life full of crazy co-workers and fantasy football drama, and a sweet chance at romance, it's simply delightful!
