Book Description:

Life is good for Tess Gardiner: Her Savannah, Georgia, bakery and cafe is thriving. She’s earned Master Pastry Chef status from the American Culinary Federation. And she’s attending a regional culinary convention in Charleston, where she’s been invited to sit on a small business panel discussion. The opportunity to tout her success will, hopefully, lead to bigger and better things in her professional life. As for her personal life? The relative contentedness she’s enjoyed for years receives a sudden jolt when she comes face to face with Tyler Brinks, the ex-boyfriend she summarily dismissed from her life eight years ago.

Tyler’s success as a highly-trained chef has launched him into the stratosphere. He already owns one ridiculously successful restaurant, and he’s aggressively working on plans for a second. But he’s never quite gotten over Tess, and he’s never really been sure what actually went wrong between them. So when a pastry and baking competition is announced for the week following the culinary convention in Charleston, Ty jumps at the chance to tempt Tess with the challenge of being his partner, giving him the perfect opportunity to remind her how good they once were together.

As the competition heats up in the kitchen, it soon becomes clear to Tess that Ty has more than cream puffs and cupcakes on his mind. And she can’t deny that her feelings for Ty never truly cooled, but have been simmering all these years, despite the way their relationship ended. Now Ty’s attention has her wondering—is this just the path to final closure? Or could this be a second chance at true love?

Book Excerpt:

“Before we go in there, I have something for you,” Ty says, reaching out but stopping just short of actually touching me.

I stare at his extended hand for a second, then flick my gaze up to his eyes. “Okay.”

Smiling, Ty crosses to a chair on the other side of the kitchen, where he’d draped his chef’s jacket so it would be out of the way. He grabs it and shrugs into it, but then picks up something from the seat of the chair. Folded fabric, the same bright white as his chef’s jacket.

My breath catches in my throat. “Is that . . .?”

“I picked it up for you on my way home yesterday.” He shakes out another chef’s jacket, cut and tailored for a woman’s build. “Hope I guessed the size right.”

I take the chef’s jacket, holding it by the shoulders and studying every seam, stitch, and button. “It’s gorgeous, Ty. Thank you!”

He shrugs in that nonchalant way of his, but his eyes twinkle with joy at my pleasure. “I figured we ought to match. And it’s a gift. Whether or not we continue to round two or beyond, it’s yours to keep.”

“You didn’t need to do this,” I murmur, lowering the garment. “I already owe you for the entry fee, and—”

“I would’ve had to pay the entry fee whether you were working with me or not, so forget it.”

Ty fastens the buttons on his jacket. Then he takes mine back and circles around me, holding the chef’s jacket open so I can slide my arms in. The starched fabric crinkles a little, coaxing a giggle from me.

But the feel of Ty’s hands on my shoulders, the sense of them reaching around to fasten the buttons, makes me freeze. When he notices, he pauses, too. Then his hands drop away, and he clears his throat as he turns and grabs the handle of the serving cart.

“We should get this down to the judges.” His voice sounds choked.

Nodding, I finish with my buttons and follow him out.

Book Description:

Interior designer Marissa O’Brien has sworn off long-term relationships, instead protecting herself from a broken heart by following a specific set of rules when it comes to her many flirtations and first dates. She’s content to just have fun in the world of romance, but all her rules fly out the window when she grabs the attention of a sexy, international stranger during her weekly Girls’ Night Out.

Josh Mattingly has spent the last two years trying to turn over a new leaf, focusing on his role in the family corporation and erasing his womanizing reputation. In Asheville, North Carolina, on business, the last thing he’d planned on was getting involved with a local girl. But one encounter with Marissa has him hooked. He soon falls hard for the designer, and now he’s terrified to reveal his romantic past for fear she’ll bolt.

Marissa recognizes a playboy when she sees one and tries to keep her attraction to Josh under wraps–until they share a passionate kiss that leaves both of them singed. Still, she knows their love affair has an expiration date, and everything is destined to end once Josh finishes his business in Asheville. Now, along with showing his family that he’s left his old habits behind, Josh has a new challenge–proving to Marissa that she can trust him with her heart.

Book Excerpt:

After I climb up the three brick steps, I pause and face him. “Listen, Josh . . .”

Thankfully, my words halt him at the bottom of the steps. He hooks his thumbs into his jeans pockets and tips his head to one side, smirking. “Uh, oh. That doesn’t usually precede something a guy wants to hear after a first date.”

“Oh, no. I wasn’t going to say . . . Let me start over.” Closing my eyes, I draw a huge breath. Then I release it slowly, willing my skittishness to go with it, and look at him again. “People who know me—or at least know of me—will tell you I date. A lot. My friends will even tell you that, and they give me shit about it all the time.”

“There’s nothing wrong with dating a lot,” he says, frowning a little.

“No, of course not. But to most people, it seems like I, well . . .” I pause, thinking how to phrase things. “I don’t exactly have a reputation, if you know what I mean. But I haven’t dated anyone seriously in a really long time.”

A perplexed line forms between his brows. “How long are we talking?”

“Three years.”

He lets out a soft whistle.

“But like I said, I’ve dated. Nothing long term. Four or five dates at most. I just— I have my reasons.”

Josh gazes at me for a few seconds, then climbs up the first two steps to my porch. The move brings him within six inches and manages to knock the air out of me without him even touching me. We aren’t quite at eye level, but it’s close. He’s still taller.

“So we’ll take it slow,” he murmurs. “You decide when and where. We get to know each other. We have fun. And if we get past four or five dates . . .”

I don’t think I’ve breathed in the last sixty seconds. My head spins. “Then what?”

“Then . . .” He leans forward until his smooth-shaven cheek brushes mine, his lips drifting close to my ear. Sparks fly across my skin as his breath tickles my neck. “Let’s just say it’ll be a nice change of pace for both of us.”

How can a whisper feel like an intimate caress?

A series of twitches flicker down my arms as the impulse to grab ahold of him and steal a kiss races through my muscles. But before I do anything, he backs down the steps, a look of satisfaction on his face.

Neither of us says anything else as he returns to his car, climbs in, and drives away with a quick triple-beep of the horn.

I can’t move until his taillights disappear from the end of my driveway.

My Book Review:

If you are looking for a delightful romantic story set in the picturesque Appalachian and Blue Ridge Mountain regions of Asheville, North Carolina, then look no further, The One I'm With is the book for you!

The One I'm With is a thoroughly entertaining romantic tale that will easily keep the reader turning the pages. The story is told in the first person narrative by sassy Marissa O'Brien, an Asheville based interior decorator, who has been solely focused on her career since her heart was broken three years ago. That is until she meets visiting corporate businessman Josh Mattingly, who is determined to break down her emotional walls, make her take a chance on love, and win her heart.

I really enjoyed following Marissa and Josh's story. I couldn't help but enjoy watching the chemistry that developed between them, especially when Josh accepts Marissa's intriguing cat and mouse challenges, because he is determined to win her love.  And even when Marissa and Josh's pasts comes back to haunt them, I couldn't help but cheer them on as they fought to overcome the obstacles that stood in their way to getting a lifetime partnership in love.

The One I'm With is a fast paced and fun novella that has engaging characters, humorous interactions and witty dialogue, flashbacks to the past and secrets that come to the surface, drama, suspense, and a sweet romance. The author provides the reader with a rich description of the beautiful setting of Asheville, North Carolina, that will make them long to visit the sights and sounds of this picturesque mountain town for themselves. I would be remiss if I didn't mention how much I loved the fun relationship between Marissa and her best friends Caitlin, Ava, and Mel. Their crazy antics and sassy humor easily kept me in stitches, and left me wanting more, so give these girls their own stories!

The One I'm With is an enjoyable and lighthearted romance story that will leave a smile on your face.

The One I'm With is the third book in the Sweet Somethings series, and can be a stand alone read.

Book Description:

Atlanta-based photographer Kate Miller doesn’t believe in fairytale romance or relationships of the forever kind. She’s determined to build her own happiness through hard work and professional success. So, when the opportunity arises to join an exclusive fashion photo shoot in Rome, she jumps on the chance to gain international recognition. But she’s not counting on an instant attraction to the charismatic, sexy, and irritatingly arrogant director of the shoot.

World famous, Domenic Varezzi is used to calling the shots. His clients trust his instincts and they’re willing to pay for the best. But while his career is thriving, his personal life has been lackluster at best. Hoping Kate could be the answer he’s been looking for, he’s determined to win her over. Every challenge she sends his way drives him to break through her tough-as-nails exterior to reach the vulnerable heart that matches his own.

Surrounded by the beauty and magic of Italy’s “Eternal City,” a foundation begins to form that could lead to a lifetime partnership, both in business and in love. Until Domenic’s past comes back to haunt the present and threatens to destroy everything.

Book Excerpt:

I accept the handshake. But a split second into it, as our gazes lock, his grip softens around mine. A slow warmth seeps down my arm and melts into my chest. My lungs seize, and Domenic’s throat works briefly as if he can’t quite swallow.

This is not what I signed on for.

Panic sets in. I slide my hand from his and cup it around the bowl of my glass. The wine burns a little as I take too big a gulp, but I manage not to cough. Domenic, too, has retreated into his glass, but whatever just passed in that handshake hangs over us.

“So,” I say in a voice too close to a whisper, sending a sidelong glance his way, “do you always wander around hotels at night with two glasses and a bottle of wine?”

“Only when there’s a chance I might run into a pretty girl.”

I snort into my glass, relieved that the spell seems to be broken.

Domenic’s grin returns. “Why is that funny?”

“The last person to call me a pretty girl was my great-uncle, and I think I was ten years old at the time.”

He chuckles. “Beautiful woman, then.”

The unexpected compliment sets off a flurry of butterflies deep in my stomach. Suddenly breathless, I drain my glass and set it down, then reach for my laptop and close the screen. “Now you’re just making fun of me.”

“I didn’t mean to.”

Chair legs scrape as we both push away from the table, me ready to bolt, him rising to placate me before I can. We stand facing each other, nearly as close as we were in the studio this afternoon. Taking a deep breath, I stare at his chest for a minute. Once my wild heartbeat and those damn butterflies settle, I tip my head back to meet his gaze.

“What are you doing on Sunday?” he asks before I can speak.

I stutter for a minute, unable to look away from his eyes. “Sightseeing, probably. We have the whole day off.”

“Maybe I’ll join you.”

My throat feels tight again. Nodding, I skirt around him, choking out something that sounds like, “Good night.”

His fingers touch my arm as I pass. “Good night, Kate.”

Head spinning, I clutch my laptop against my chest and rush to the terrace doors. I look back when I reach the doorway, only to find him watching me, his thumbs hooked in his pockets and a half-smirk on his face.

A face I find too handsome for my own good.

Still, I wave at him, wiggling my fingers like a silly teenager who sees her crush across the cafeteria. My face burns as I whirl, practically sprinting across the dark breakfast room to the hallway and stairwell.

Book Description:

Carmella Sannarelli just found out that her best friend, Sadie Miller, has broken her engagement and is eloping on St. Croix. Though Carmella agrees to act as the maid of honor, she’s determined to find out what went wrong between her friends.

But she’s not counting on coming face to face with Ryan Wutkowski (the jilted fiancé) on the plane, or with staying at his hotel during a two-day stopover in San Juan. They try to act like nothing’s changed. But Carmella’s totally flustered by the weird vibes Ryan sends her, as well as how tingly and off-kilter she feels every time he so much as looks at her.

Now Carmella can’t stop thinking about Ryan or his behavior, even though most of her time in St. Croix is taken up by pre-wedding activities and dodging advances from the womanizing best man. And she knows there’s more to the story behind Ryan and Sadie’s breakup than either of them will admit to her.

Especially after Ryan shows up at the rehearsal dinner and gets himself invited to the wedding...

Book Excerpt:

Ryan taps my arm. “Why are you on a flight to San Juan?”

I peer at him, my eyes narrow slits. “Why are you?”

A rhetorical question. Although his suit coat is probably in the overhead bin, safe inside a garment bag, his dress pants, crisp white button-down shirt, and Italian leather shoes tell me everything.

He answers anyway. “I have a conference over the next couple days. I have to go straight from the airport to my first meeting.”

The plane levels out, as does my head, and I wriggle to sit up straight. “They could at least let you check into your hotel first.”

“Well, fortunately the conference is at my hotel.”

“It’s a pretty fast trip.” I press my face to the window glass, squinting against the glare.

He shifts in his seat. “I had some vacation time coming, so I extended the trip through the middle of next week.”

So he’s not the only one who decided on a Caribbean adventure in the wake of his and Sadie’s breakup. I close my eyes, glad I didn’t say it out loud.

“Carmella, why are you going to Puerto Rico by yourself?”

The advantages of having Ryan for a flight companion have just turned moot. There’s no way to avoid this discussion. The flight’s too long. “I’m on my way to St. Croix.”

There. I said it. Sort of.

“What’s in St. Croix?”

His voice is low, and when I glance at him, he looks away. His jaw shifts, his profile a stern mask.

“I think you already know,” I answer slowly.

“Sadie.”

My Book Review:

If you are looking for a delightful romantic story about best friends, an unexpected wedding, and a subtle attempt at matchmaking set on the tropical Caribbean islands of Puerto Rico and St Croix, then look no further, Better Than Chocolate is the book for you!

What could be better than chocolate? Hmmm ... that thought alone caught my attention when I read the description to this sassy tale. Author J. Lynn Rowan weaves a fun romantic story that follows the crazy journey that Carmella Sannarelli embarks on when best friend Sadie Miller informs her that she will be her Maid-of-Honor in the Caribbean island of St. Croix. But there is just one little thing ... Sadie used to be engaged to fellow best friend Ryan Wutkowski, that is until they suddenly break up and she takes off to the Caribbean where she meets wealthy Nelson Mattingly in flight, and a week later she is engaged to be married in three weeks! Phew ... did ya get that? Well, when Sadie tells Carmella about her plans, Carmella is astonished that her two best friends have broken up without telling her, plus the shock of the upcoming nuptials completely throws her for a loop. And if you think that is crazy, it's just the beginning ... Carmella and Ryan are unexpected seat mates on a flight to San Juan, where she has a two day layover and he is attending a conference. They catch up with each other ... it's just like old times ... but the mystery of the breakup still has Carmella confused. Things get even crazier when Carmella arrives in St. Croix and Sadie is up to her old matchmaking tricks when she introduces Carmella to Nelson's brother and best man Joshua, but Sadie's subtle matchmaking antics gets turned up a notch when Ryan suddenly arrives in St. Croix and joins in the wedding festivities. Hmm ... could an unexpected chance at finding one's true love really be better than chocolate?!

Better Than Chocolate is a thoroughly entertaining romantic tale that will keep the reader in stitches. Told in the first person narrative by sassy Carmella Sannarelli, the reader is transported along for the ride as Carmella embarks on a crazy journey of personal discovery, and an unexpected chance at finding true love.

This is a fast paced and fun novella that has engaging characters, humorous interactions and witty dialogue, flashbacks to the three best friends' relationship, and a sweet romance. The author provides the reader with a rich description of the tropical Caribbean island settings of San Juan and St. Croix, it makes you long for a little tropical adventure of your own. I really enjoyed following Carmella's journey, how the mystery behind Sadie and Ryan's breakup unfolds, and the swoon worthy sweet blossoming of a new romance that is so unexpected but oh so right, and maybe even better than chocolate (gasp)!

Better Than Chocolate is an enjoyable and lighthearted romance story that will leave a smile on your face.
