My Book Review:

In the debut novel, When The Night Comes Knocking, author Katherine Daniel weaves a riveting horror story that easily draws the reader into a dark storyline that follows a group of people who are trapped in an Appalachian roadside convenience store by a monster who seeks to feast on people's guilty hearts.

Set in the North Georgia Appalachian Mountains, local folklore tells of a spirit who was trapped inside Blood Mountain and has become cursed and seeks out the scent of people and feasts on their guilty hearts.

Estranged siblings Jane and Thomas Wilson were travelling to their family's rented cabin on Blood Mountain for Thanksgiving. They stop along the way at a roadside convenience store and unsuspectingly the customers come under attack by an eerie monster who has been lured to the store by one of their guilty hearts. As the night plays out and the monster claims it's victims, the local folklore is retold and all of them wonder if the guilt they hold inside is what lured the monster to their door. How will the attack on their lives unfold When The Night Comes Knocking?

When The Night Comes Knocking is an intense and eerie horror tale that is rich in detail and vivid descriptions. The dark intensity of the storyline and the complexity of the monster that seeks out guilty hearts to feast on kept me thoroughly riveted, engrossed, and shocked as each of the people wonder if it's their own guilty pasts that have lured the bloody heart seeking monster to the store's door. I am not one who usually likes horror books or movies, but the intensity of this dark tale had me holding my breath and my pulse quickening as the night played out. This is a scary-good story that is just right for the month of October, so don't pass it by!

The author does a phenomenal job of transporting the reader into this fast-paced white-knuckle storyline with her creative interweaving of a psychological cat-n-mouse game that keeps the reader turning the pages until the shocking ending.

When The Night Comes Knocking is an eerie horror story that will captivate the reader, it doesn't get any better than that!

Book Description:

molka (n): the Korean term for spy cameras secretly and illegally installed, often to capture voyeuristic images and videos

Dahye can't believe her luck when she finds herself in a whirlwind romance with handsome, charismatic Hyukjoon, the heir to a multi-million-dollar fortune.

But then a shocking revelation threatens: the couple has been caught on a spycam amid Korea's growing molka epidemic, and the video is all over the internet. When Hyukjoon flees the country to avoid the intense public scrutiny, Dahye is left to grapple with the ramifications on her own; and the demons from her childhood, long dormant, begin to surface.

Amid the chaos, she catches the attention of Junyoung, a nerdy, introverted IT tech at work. Junyoung harbours a dark secret: he has been spying on the women at work with his own hidden cameras. As Dahye's life begins to unravel, she unknowingly becomes the sole target of Junyoung's perverse obsession.

When the facts surrounding the invasion of her privacy come to light, Dahye is faced with the humiliating truth. Her pain and hurt turn to rage as she faces her past. Her desire for vengeance is insatiable, and she will not rest until the men who have wronged her have paid in blood...

My Book Review:

In Molka, author Monika Kim weaves a riveting horror story that easily draws the reader into a dark storyline that follows a woman seeking revenge for having been caught up in a molka incident.

Set in Seoul, South Korea, the country has been hit with a molka epidemic, where spy cameras are secretly and illegally installed, capturing nonconsensual sexually voyeuristic images and videos, which are an invasion of privacy and exploitation, that has ruined many lives, relationships, families, and careers.

Dahye Park and her boyfriend Hyukjoon Jang were caught up in a molka incident that was leaked to the media. When Dahye finds out that the videos appeared on a molka chatroom and that Hyukjoon has abandoned her, she turns her rage into seeking vengeance from those who have ruined her life.

Molka is a complex and multi-layered tale that is not your usual horror story. This is a really dark tale that is rich in detail and vivid descriptions. The dark intensity of the storyline and the complexity of the molka epidemic and its effect on Dahye's life kept me thoroughly riveted, engrossed, and shocked at the level of vengeance she sought. With the prevalence of social media and the issue of privacy and the exploitation of women via molka voyeuristic incidents, the author really opened my eyes to the injustice this has upon women's lives.

The author does a phenomenal job of delving into the tangled web of secrets, lies, betrayals, and emotional trauma that comes from the molka epidemic. The author transports the reader into this fast-paced white-knuckle storyline with her creative interweaving of a psychological cat-n-mouse game that keeps the reader turning the pages until the surprising and shocking ending.

Molka is an eerie horror story that will captivate the reader, it doesn't get any better than that!
