I am in love with Adam Levine. I am so in love with him that my 9 year old has changed the wallpaper on my phone to his picture. My 14 year old promptly changed my screen saver to say, "You should love Dad more."

I am so absurd that my friends - Facebook and real life - and my students' parents alert me to all of his appearances on TV. They send me pictures of his tattooed abdomen. It's become a joke and I guess I have too.

But I am so in love with Adam Levine that I have written a romance novel and he is the hero...the sexy knight on a white horse. I am so enamored with sitting and pretending a newly widowed mom of three living in suburban Midlothian has fallen in love with an older Adam like character that I wrote a sequel to the first book.

I let Justin read them and he said it's like I've killed him in order to date Adam but he's so wrong.

This girl in the book, my book has 3 kids. I have 4. And the guy, the guy who's car she falls in front of while out for a run with her dog and holding a bag of dog poop, this guy is a decade older than Adam Levine. And he's not in a band...

So, I tell him it's so not me in this book and he, this guy who I'm married to, says he doesn't care because he sees that writing this book is making me happy and how can I possibly be in love with Adam when the guy who greets me each morning encourages me to follow my dreams.

Book Description:

Heather Meadows lost the only love she’s ever known. Her perfect, yet ordinary life was turned upside down the day her 38-year-old husband died. Her happily ever after was gone in the blink of an eye. Heather’s life becomes the subject of scrutiny and pity as she tries to pick up the pieces of her shattered world and raise her three children on her own. In the midst of suburbia and gossipy neighbors, Heather tries to re-build a normal life. Little does she know she’s about to trip into a new adventure. An adventure she could never have imagined. Where will her misstep take her and how will Heather handle the prying eyes of those around her?

Book Excerpt:

Heather’s run was going so well she decided to extend it and go down to the river. She got to the corner to cross the street. Leash in one hand, bag of dog poop and cell phone in the other. There was a break in the traffic, and Heather took off. Straight into a pothole and smack down into the middle of the street. A navy blue Lexus slammed on its brakes and pulled over.

Fuck, thought Heather. She ran on this route so no one would see her. It was her few minutes of anonymity. Now she had fallen crossing the road every PTA mom traveled. People would be writing on her Facebook wall in a matter of minutes asking her if she was ok. All of her friends would wonder what else could possibly happen to this poor widow. Heather didn’t want to look up. She knew a perfectly coiffed blonde would be getting out of the car in her workout clothes. She tried to get up quickly and realized she had messed up her ankle. Coco was licking her face when she noticed there was a man grabbing her arm and pulling her up. He put her left arm over his shoulder and somehow half dragged her and half carried her over to the car. He opened the door with his free hand and effortlessly sat her in his passenger seat. Heather was still holding onto Coco, who was looking at this stranger quizzically. He bent down to pet Coco and look at her ankle.

That’s when she got her first look at him. He was wearing a short-sleeved v-neck t-shirt and jeans. Tight well-fitting jeans. And he had tattoos on his arms. Beautiful tattoos. For a minute, she thought he was the guy on The Voice or maybe his older brother. But then she remembered where she was and knew he would never be hanging out in her neck of the woods. He looked up at her with his big blue eyes and asked if she was hurt anywhere else.

“No. It’s just my ankle. I think I twisted it in the stupid pothole.”

Shit, she thought, realizing she was still carrying the bag of actual shit. She held it up, smiled and tossed it into the woods next to the car.

My Book Review:

Tripped Up Love is the wonderful story of a woman's journey of moving forward and getting a second chance at love after the death of her husband.

Heather Meadows is a forty year old widow with three children, who is still grieving from the unexpected death of her husband Hank, who passed away eighteen months ago from a heart attack at the age of thirty-eight. Hank and Heather had been together for thirty-two years, he was her life, her world, her everything ... now her happily ever after was over and she feels lost and unable to move forward in her life. As a stay-at-home mom with a Masters degree, Heather's dream was to be a writer, and as she searches for a way to find normalcy in her life, she plans to finish writing her 'memoir' about Hank, their life and his death, and to get it published. While out running, Heather falls into a pothole and is rescued by Peter Adamson, a NY Times bestselling author, who was driving by when she stumbled into the path of his car. What starts out as a shining knight in armor rescuing a damsel in distress, leads to a journey of new beginnings and an unexpected second chance at love.

Author Julie Farley weaves a wonderful tale of love, loss, family, and second chances. You can't help but feel compassion for Heather as she struggles with the grief over her husband's unexpected death, and the awkward transition of becoming a single mother with three children, with a myriad of humorous trials and tribulations to deal with while trying to find balance and a sense of normalcy for her family.

I really enjoyed the unexpected meeting between Heather and Peter. Her clumsiness brought an unexpected and perfect man into her world, and as their relationship slowly develops, Peter would be the one to show Heather that her life can have a new beginning with a second chance at love.

This is a lighthearted and humorous romance that doesn't play heavy on the sorrow of the husband's death, rather it realistically shows a woman's struggle and journey to move forward with her life as a single woman and mother after the death of her husband, and how a sweet new romance added a touch of hope into the mix.

Tripped Up Love is a heartfelt and touching romance story that will give you a warm fuzzy feeling and put a smile on your face.

Tripped Up Love is the first book in The New Ever After Series.
