WRODS I CAN'T SPEL - DANG!

Luietenant Lugowski closed the door behind him tossing Jack a steely glance. Whoa! Did I spell that word wrong again? Geez, there are some words I just can’t get straight in my head. Lieutenant is one of those words. Lieutenant Carl Lugowski has been a character in my books since I started writing back in 2005. You’d think I’d have learned how to spell lieutenant by now without having to cheat (like I just did) by peeking at it from another sentence.

Lieutenant isn’t the only word that I struggle with. I use the word maleovence or rather, malevolence in my writing, too. Yeah, that little red line from my computer’s spellcheck is forever appearing when I type that little trouble-maker.

Most of the words that I struggle with are actually pretty hard words to spell—in my opinon anyway…opinion anyway. Words like: physique, psyche, psychiatric—hey those are tough words to spell, and I’ve made it a little easier on myself by making a list of those words—spelled correctly—on a piece of paper on my bulletin board in my office so that I’m not constantly looking them up. A very good idea—especially if you have an entire list of words like I do.

Hard words don’t really get under my skin all that much—it’s the easy words that get me hot under the collar when I screw them up. Example: Jack Haliday kept a tight exersise schedule. Now come on, exercise is a really easy word—but I mess it up every time.

Seriously?

What really riles me is when I can’t think of how to spell a word. I know how to spell it, but my brain just won’t let me have it! I spent an entire half hour one evening trying to figure how to spell the word our. That’s right, O U R—our. It just wouldn’t come. I couldn’t believe it. Finally I yelled up the stairs to my husband, “Hey, how do you spell our?” I got no response for a few moments. He was probably thinking, really? She can’t spell our? She’s been down in that office too long. Finally, he spelled it nice and slow so that the dumb blonde downstairs would catch it.

Grrrr.

I think that sometimes we authors write for so many hours that our brain does occasionally malfunction. Thank God for spell check—that is if you can get the word started in the first place.

I’m sure that I’m not alone when I tell you that sometimes I can’t think of a word. Rayne was overcome with… Rayne was overcome with… Oh good God! Rayne was overcome with grief. Okay, that was a simple example, but you get the jist or the gist—if you want it spelled right.

Okay, I’m going to give this a whirl: Lieutenant Lugowski’s physique was bent and crooked when he entered the phyciatric ward. Well… I almost made it. *sigh*

About The Author

For twenty-six years Cindy McDonald’s life whirled around a song and a dance: she was a professional dancer/choreographer for most of her adult life and never gave much thought to a writing career until 2005. She often notes: Don’t ask me what happened, but suddenly I felt drawn to my computer to write about things I have experienced (greatly exaggerated upon of course—I’ve never been murdered!) with my husband’s Thoroughbreds and happenings at the racetrack. Viola! Cindy’s first book series, Unbridled, was born—there are four books to that series so far.

Cindy is a huge fan of romantic suspense series, and although she isn’t one to make New Year’s resolutions, on New Year’s Day 2013 she made a commitment to write one, Into the Crossfire is the first book for her new series, First Force.

People are always asking Cindy: do you miss dance? With a bitter sweet smile on her lips she tells them: Sometimes I do. I miss my students. I miss choreographing musicals, but I love my books, and I love sharing them with you.

It has been four years since ex Navy SEAL, Jack Haliday, had an explosive run-in with a biker gang, wounding their leader, Gunner. During those years Jack had acquired everything he ever wanted: a beautiful wife, an adorable daughter, and a lovely home in the suburbs—everything was just about as perfect as it could get, until Gunner returned to twist Jack Haliday’s world inside-out with a vengeance that he could never have prepared for.

Now Jack has a score to settle and he’s got some friends to help him do it!

My Book Review:

Jack Haliday is an ex-Navy SEAL and Detective in the gang unit of the Rosemount Police Department. Jack has the perfect life: a beautiful wife he loves and a four year old daughter he adores. But his world is about to be turned upside down, leaving him with a score to settle.

Four years ago, Jack was involved in an undercover operation where he successfully infiltrated the notorious Nomads biker gang. But his cover was blown and the undercover operation breached when he had to save a police detective's life and shoot at Gunner, the murderous leader of the biker gang. Jack safely escaped, but Gunner wasn't apprehended, and has been underground for four years biding his time to get vengeance on the man who penetrated his organization, betrayed and shot him.

Four years later, it's time for vengeance ... and it's personal ... but who will prevail?

Into The Crossfire is a riveting romantic suspense story that takes the reader on one hell of an exhilarating roller coaster ride. Author Cindy McDonald weaves an intriguing suspense thriller set in Rosemount, Pennsylvania, that follows the vengeful chess match with a personal score to settle between Jack Haliday and Gunner, the ruthless bike gang leader.
