About The Author:

Katya Dillon was born in Slovakia, nourished by the air breathed out by rocks and mountains. She had her first stories published when she was seven years old and her payment came in the form of a huge box of books, which was heaven. Her first brush with fame brought an early reality check, an accusation of plagiarism by a jealous classmate, an injustice which wasn't as much fun as it might have been, had the young Ms. Dillon had thicker skin.

Katya spent her childhood hiding in trees, watching people, and telling stories to her her friends, who refused to go on car journeys without their pocket-sized storyteller.

Apart from language, Katya was obsessed with biology and went on to study at the world-famous Institute of Neurology, where she discovered with horror that most science isn't the mystical mixture of poetry and magic she longed for. She changed direction and followed her passion for herbs, vitamins and health, while continuing to write fiction, with much swearing and yelling at the typewriter, which always seemed to come up with drivel after she had tapped in the most sublime, profound sentiments into the damn thing only moments before!

So what's next? Katya Dillon's Lipstick Writing on Kindle. The future is here!

Book Description:

Sad Moon is a gothic romance, When Ralph Tyler falls passionately in love with a wild, mysterious woman, Leah Herne, his whole world is turned upside down, and his dark, intense obsession transforms him from a man into a hero.

My Book Review:

Sad Moon is a tragic gothic romance story about a young minister who becomes infatuated and fatefully falls  in love with a wild free-spirited young gypsy woman. The story is set in Harlingham, UK, and is narrated by an elderly country doctor who witnesses the relationship grow between the two, while also being infatuated with the woman.

One day, Lena Herne shows up at Dr. Josiah Kellner's door with her little boy and a horse in tow looking for a place to stay. Refusing a room, she settles for an old stable on the edge of the doctor's property. The free-spirited gypsy woman has captivated the doctor much to his wife's chagrin, she calls him an old fool for watching the woman from afar. Mary Kellner tells their new young married minister, Ralph Tyler, about the gypsy woman who is living on their property. Intrigued, Ralph sets out to visit Lena, and he finds himself becoming infatuated with her. Living in an unhappy marriage for three years to his wife Catherine, Ralph steals away daily to the edge of the woods and spies on Leah from the safety of the bushes. His daily visits do not go unnoticed, as Josiah, Mary and Catherine watch Ralph slowly change as if he has become possessed, and rumors begin to fly throughout the town. Ralph's obsession with Leah sets off a series of events that will eventually unravel and destroy everything in his life. Following his heart, Ralph's obsession and love for Leah will have fateful costs.

Sad Moon is a dark sad tale about a fateful obsessive love that consumed a man who gave up everything in his life to follow his heart's desire. The storyline is well written and is narrated by the elderly country doctor with alternating chapters between the doctor's daily life and observations, with the development of Ralph and Leah's relationship. The author does a good job of weaving a tale seen through the elderly country doctor's eyes, and it engages the reader to follow along as if they were sitting on the couch next to him listening to his story. The characters are realistic and complex, their individual stories are interwoven with their interactions with each other, and it makes the story that much more compelling and powerful. You can't help but ponder whether an attraction that strong can really be capable of changing a person's life, even if it has detrimental results. The author provides rich details of the country setting, full of ponds and woods and flowers, you can close your eyes and visualize how peaceful and beautiful the countryside must look like.

Sad Moon is not your usual happily ever after story. While I found this to be a fascinating story, one that makes you think, it's darkness is sometimes overpowering. This dark sad tale is full of intrigue, passion, sadness and retribution, with a conclusion that will leave you shaking your head.

RATING: 3 STARS *** (My Rating) / 4 STARS **** (Amazon Rating)
