Random Ramblings: Book Reviewer Dilemmas ...

As I find myself getting more and more involved in reading and reviewing books for virtual book tour events and author requests for reviews, I have acquired random thoughts or dilemmas related to the wonderful world of book reviewing, and thought maybe if I shared my thoughts, my fellow book reviewers might care to share their insight.

First, I have found that my personal pile of TBR books is getting longer, and that I haven't read any in quite a while, as I have dedicated more time to reading and reviewing books for the tour events or author requests.

Second, since I bought my Kindle last year, I have become so spoiled from reading books on that device, that when I read other formats (Paperbacks, Hardcovers, ARCs, Galleys and PDFs), it seems to take me longer to read/finish the book.

Third, since I want to provide a thorough book review, I take notes as I read and I find that this is also slowing my reading/reviewing rate down.

Finally, I just plain love being immersed in reading good books .... so this has to be a good thing ... right?! lol

So .... fellow bookworms and book reviewers, what's a girl to do when she has these random thoughts popping up while reading? I would love to know what y'all would do if you found yourself in the same situation! :)

... Just another random rambling from Kathleen @ Jersey Girl Book Reviews

  1. It seems I face the same dilemma now and then, this is what has helped me... The long list of TBR- I give myself permission to read one book after reading/posting two review books. As far as keeping notes, I love the highlight and note feature on my kindle/PC/droid. I have my kindle open and review the highlight/notes as I draft my review, it is a timesaver. Being immersed in a good book, you say, well you should see my laundry pile. :) great blog, great discussion. Thanks so much for the following me at http://foreverbklover.blogspot.com/

  2. Thank you for commenting! I haven't used the highlight and note feature on my Kindle, and lately the books that I am reading for reviews are ARCs, so I use a legal pad for notes. I am going to reward myself like you have and read at least 2 books from my TBR list a month. lol Love your blog site! :)

  3. I think yours are common dilemmas :)

I too take notes when I read a review book because I don't trust myself to remember all the points I want to make when I finish. Sometimes it frustrates me, but I can't think of a better way.

My TBR pile has not been shrinking, but rather growing fast in the opposite direction. A couple of months ago I made a conscious decision not to commit to any more tours or reviews until after the end of the year and that seems to have helped.

  4. I'm glad to hear that this is a common dilemma! lol I'm trying to shorten my note taking and still trying to fit in reading at least 1-2 books from my TBR pile a month. *sigh*
